I thought you might like to know a little more about the person making the art I share here with you now and then. If that’s the case – please click on this link to take you to a recent article in Faire magazine: Meet contemporary abstract painter Jessica Brown in her studio in Warwickshire. — FAIRE (fairepress.com)
I’ve often talked about my love of maps and journeys and if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you’ll have seen I’ve been making paintings based around this subject for a while. I often even include scraps of maps in my work, and if you look carefully, you can see a piece of map in the painting below: ‘The past is another country’.
‘The past is another country’. 120 x 90cm on canvas.
The title of this latest piece is inspired by the first line of the JP Hartley book ‘The Go-Between’ which is: ‘The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there.’ I’ve always loved this line, as for me it conjures up so many ideas about journeys, and memories from long ago which can feel so intangible and distant, it’s almost as if they happened to someone else.
